Coating Thickness
The surfaces of steel nails are electrogalvanized to prevent
corrosion due to atmospheric oxidation (rusting). This
coating is particulary important when nails are to be
used for external purposes and so the thickness of the
applied coat must be monitored constantly to ensure standards*
are maintained properly.
The weight of the coating is determined according to
the procedure described in the standard ASTM A90/A90M.
Coating thickness are also measured using a Fischer
Deltascope® MP30 using ASTM B499.
Note: Coating thicknesses vary
according to the type of nail. Measurements are checked
against in-house standards or using thickness measurements
supplied by the customer. For further information contact

This test is carried out for every batch of nails produced. |
