Performance Testing
- Plastic Collating
Performance testing is one of the most important ways
of checking that our products are up to standard. Random
samples of the finished product are collected from every
batch produced and then loaded into a variety of the most
popular makes of nail guns. Nails are then fired under
controlled conditions and the quality of firing is ascertained.
The tests are listed below.
Transition Test:
When more than 1 strip of nails are loaded into a nail
gun, "Transition" is a term used to describe the changeover
period as one strip finishes and the next strip starts.
Points to watch out for are jamming and mis-firing.
Splitting Test:
This test is used to determine the effects of the nail
characterisitc (shank-diameter, point configuration
etc. on the tendency for the wood to split whilst the
nail is being driven.
Flagging Test:
"Flagging" is a term used to descibe a piece
of plastic that has not completely dissociated itself
from a nail when driven. Flags are pieces of plastic
that protrude from the surface of the wood and result
in uneven surfaces if not removed.
